Welcome back to our series “Weekend Living” where we take you through what a day off can look like in the different Maui areas. Last month we wandered Kihei, and this week we’re having a change of scenery and cruising Wailuku!
Where to eat breakfast:
It would be a shame to be in the area and skip out on Wailuku’s variety of well-loved bakeries. We recommend hitting up Four Sisters Bakery for Filipino and Hawaiian baked goods, or Stillwell’s Bakery for sweet and savory breakfast options.
Where to spend your morning:
The Maui Tropical Plantation is a great place for all ages! Take a short tour on their Tropical Express, or the more adventurous can check out the ziplining. There’s also opportunities to walk the gardens, shop, and feed the ducks.
Where to eat lunch:
Since you’re already at the plantation, you should definitely go to Cafe O’Lei at The Old Mill House. You might be tempted to order the entire menu!
Where to spend your afternoon:
Stop by Wailuku Coffee Company if you need a mid-afternoon caffeine pick-me-up, and then head up to Hale HĹŤĘ»ikeĘ»ike at the Baily House for an incredible look into Maui’s history. (At the current time, Iao Valley State Park is closed due to weather-related repairs, but it’s another great place to spend the afternoon in the future!)
Where to find happy hour:
Lovers of craft cocktails need to stop by Ester’s Fair Prospect, while larger groups are welcome at The Parlay. For more of a classic sit-down dinner, swing by 808 Old Town.
Where to find evening entertainment:
It would be a shame to visit Wailuku and skip the historic Iao Theater. Check out if there are going to be any Maui on Stage shows while you’re in town.
