Weekend Living in Kula

Our series “Weekend Living” is all about what you might want to spend your day off doing on different parts of Maui. So far we’ve covered Kihei, Wailuku, Kāʻanapali and Nāpili. Today we head upcountry to spend time in Kula

Where to Eat Breakfast:

Whether you want to start your day off with a pastry and a coffee, or a full sit down loco moco, Grandma’s is the place to head first.

Where to Spend Your Morning:

The Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm has limited hours, but is a beautiful experience if the scheduling works out. Take a tour or walk the property yourself, and shop their locally made lavender products.

Alternatively, if it’s the right time of year for a pumpkin patch, or strawberry picking, we recommend heading over to Kula Country Farms Their charming (and delicious) farmstand is open year round.

Where to Eat Lunch:

A local favorite for all meals, Kula Bistro is where to head for a variety of fresh food that will satisfy everyone. From paninis to salads, pasta plates to a great seafood selection, you won’t be disappointed.

Where to Spend Your Afternoon:

While not technically in Kula, it’s worth driving down the road to Maui Wine in Ulupalakua. There you can take a tour, hit the tasting room, and check out the Ulupalakua Ranch Store just across the way.

Where to Find Happy Hour:

If you’re heading back from Maui Wine, you might create your own happy hour with a newly purchased bottle of wine and a picnic blanket at Rice Park.

Where to Find Evening Entertainment:

For those who prefer a more relaxed vibe, Kula is perfect for you. Still looking for some entertainment? We recommend heading over to Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery where you can catch a stunning view of the sunset, and more often then not, live music.

Weekend Living in Kāʻanapali and Nāpili

On this episode of our Weekend Living series, we are visiting Kāʻanapali and Nāpili. (Make sure to go back and explore Kihei and Wailuku with us too)

Where to Eat Breakfast:

Head to the Gazebo Restaurant for staples like pancakes, omelets, and other dishes with tropical twists. Or swing by Island Vibes Cafe for coffee and quick bites. Slappy Cakes is also a ton of fun (you can make your own pancakes at your table’s personal griddle)

Where to Spend Your Morning:

Black Rock is a classic Kāʻanapali beach for a reason: a large sandy beach, frequent visits from turtles, snorkeling, and cliff jumping make this a very popular spot.

Kapalua Bay and Nāpili Bay are also both excellent selections for a family-friendly day at the beach. White sand, snorkeling, and calm waters make both of these spots idyllic places to build a sandcastle, go for a swim, and enjoy a good book.

Where to Eat Lunch:

There is a variety to pick from, depending on what you’re in the mood for. Some places that are popular for a reason include the Hula Grill, the Burger Shack, Dang Dang Noodle, and A’a Roots.

Where to Spend Your Afternoon:

Some of you may want to head up to Kapalua for ziplining, and stop to check out the Nakalele Blowhole. While others may prefer the variety of shopping available at Whalers Village.

Where to Find Happy Hour:

MonkeyPod Kitchen and Ulu Kitchen are both popular happy hour destinations depending on how casual you’d like to go (and totally worth sticking around for dinner). Kitchen 5315 is perfect for those craving tiki bar vibes, and Sea House Restaurant is award winning for a reason

Where to Find Evening Entertainment:

The west side offers some truly stunning evening options. Head into Lahaina for the famous Old Lahaina Luau, or try out something different like Stargazing Tours or Sunset Dinner Cruises.

Weekend Living in Wailuku

Welcome back to our series “Weekend Living” where we take you through what a day off can look like in the different Maui areas. Last month we wandered Kihei, and this week we’re having a change of scenery and cruising Wailuku

Where to eat breakfast:

It would be a shame to be in the area and skip out on Wailuku’s variety of well-loved bakeries. We recommend hitting up Four Sisters Bakery for Filipino and Hawaiian baked goods, or Stillwell’s Bakery for sweet and savory breakfast options.

Where to spend your morning:

The Maui Tropical Plantation is a great place for all ages Take a short tour on their Tropical Express, or the more adventurous can check out the ziplining. There’s also opportunities to walk the gardens, shop, and feed the ducks.

Where to eat lunch:

Since you’re already at the plantation, you should definitely go to Cafe O’Lei at The Old Mill House. You might be tempted to order the entire menu

Where to spend your afternoon:

Stop by Wailuku Coffee Company if you need a mid-afternoon caffeine pick-me-up, and then head up to Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Baily House for an incredible look into Maui’s history. (At the current time, Iao Valley State Park is closed due to weather-related repairs, but it’s another great place to spend the afternoon in the future)

Where to find happy hour:

Lovers of craft cocktails need to stop by Ester’s Fair Prospect, while larger groups are welcome at The Parlay. For more of a classic sit-down dinner, swing by 808 Old Town.

Where to find evening entertainment:

It would be a shame to visit Wailuku and skip the historic Iao Theater. Check out if there are going to be any Maui on Stage shows while you’re in town.

Weekend Living in Kihei

Welcome to our new series Weekend Living, where we take you through what a day off can look like in the different Maui areas. Today we are starting with Kihei

Considered the drier side of Maui, some perks of Kihei include it’s variety of beaches, walkability, and great array of dining options.

Where to eat breakfast:

There are plenty of places to grab a coffee and a light breakfast, such as Akamai Coffee (their Kihei location has a drive through for those on the go), or The Frontroom.

Looking for a more robust first meal of the day? Check out the popular Kihei Caffe or Nalu’s South Shore Grill.

Where to spend your morning:

We recommend the beach of course Perks of hitting the beach earlier in the day include calmer wind and waters, making it an ideal time to paddleboard, kayak, and snorkel. Mana Kai has convenient parking and is good for all the aforementioned activities, while the pool-like waters of Kalepolepo Beach Park is convenient for very small children.

Where to eat lunch:

The South Maui Gardens hosts a plethora of food trucks, making it a sure fire way to make everyone happy Da Green Coffee Bar is also there for a mid-day caffeine pick-me-up.

Where to spend your afternoon:

If you’re looking to get out of the sun for a bit, you could stop by the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center to learn about our favorite Maui wildlife. Or do some shopping at any of the many shopping centers, including Kihei Kalama Villages, Dolphin Plaza, or Azeka Shopping Center.

Where to find happy hour:

Raise your hand if you love happy hour- we sure do Some of our favorites include Maui Brewing Company, Three’s Bar and Grill, and Isana.

Where to find evening entertainment:

Besides all the bars offering live music (taking a walk down South Kihei road with your ears open) you can also check out a comedy show, or sign up for paint n sip. Looking for a Luau? Check out the Gilligans Island Luau.
